Foundation in Health Sciences
This course is designed as a step by step introduction to the basic concepts and principles of science subjects relevant to those wishing to work in the healthcare industry or simply wishing to gain a better understanding of how the human body works. At IHS we find that many students wishing to embark on a course in nutrition, whether for professional or personal gain, have little or no science background and feel intimidated or nervous about enrolling on a course in a scientific subject. This certificate guides students through very basic scientific terms and concepts before building their knowledge further in topics relevant to health sciences such as chemistry, biochemistry and anatomy. Graduates of this certificate can then feel confident about furthering their studies in any area of the health sciences.
About this Course
This foundation course has been designed to start at a basic level with the assumption that the student has no prior knowledge of the subjects. You will be gradually educated in the essential concepts that are important to understand before starting our diploma in Nutritional Therapy or other programmes in health sciences. Many students that take this course are returning to study after a long period or those that have never studied biology or chemistry previously.
The course format is modular allowing you to direct the progress of your learning. Structured home study allows you to complete each module in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace. Mutually agreed goals and milestones ensure that you will remain focused while still allowing you flexibility and time to build a solid foundation of scientific understanding. As a student you will be assigned a personal tutor to guide and mentor you through the programme. Online tutorials are provided so that you receive the support that you need.
IHS may request that potential diploma students with no science background complete this course (or another similar course) prior to enrolment on the diploma in Nutritional Therapy.
